Goucher Falls Short in Landmark Conference Home Opener to 25th Ranked Susquehanna University
The Goucher College(2-7, 0-1) Men’s Basketball hosted defending Landmark Conference Champions Susquehanna University (5-1, 1-0) this afternoon in each team’s conference opener.
TOWSON, MD. - The Goucher College(2-7, 0-1) Men's Basketball hosted defending Landmark Conference Champions Susquehanna University (5-1, 1-0) this afternoon in each team's conference opener. The River Hawks came into the game ranked 25th in the nation. Susquehanna controlled the lead from the opening tip and led the Gophers by 15 at halftime. Susquehanna extended the lead to 18 points(44-26) two minutes into the second half and it looked as if the home squad was overmatched However, Goucher went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 8 points (44-36). The Gophers closed within 3 points (46-43) with a 7-2 run over the next 2 minutes. Susquehanna then went on their own run and pulled away from Goucher by 9 points (54-45) at the 8:41 mark. The Gophers didn't quit and went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to reduce the River Hawks lead to 2 points (56-54) with 7:07 remaining. Susquehanna was able to hold on over the next seven minutes to secure the win by a final score of 68-62.
Senior Tre Galloway (Fort Washington, MD) (23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks) led the Gophers while Junior Elliott Wiley (Baltimore, MD) (20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals) also contributed.
The River Hawks were led by Steven Weidlich(19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists) and Ryan Traub (20 points)
