Late Rally Handles Goucher Men's Basketball In 75-67 Loss To Juniata
HUNGINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College closed the game on a 13-5 run to rally to defeat Goucher College 75-67 in Landmark Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Dwayne Morton (Waynesville, Mo./Waynesville) paced the Gophers with 16 points. Morton has reached double figures in points in each of his last three tilts and is averaging 15.7 points per game in that span. He has 14 double-digit point games this season including seven games with at least 15 points. The junior leads the team with 13.4 points per game.
Timmy O'Farrell (Churchton, Md./Southern) added 14 points off the bench. One week after the dramatic 3-pointer to send the game to OT against Catholic, the sophomore notched a career-high 14 points. He shot 5 of 6 from the floor and 4 of 5 from behind the arc to best his career high of 13 points he set twice this season. O'Farrell now has four 10+ games this season and five for his career.
Pat Goralski (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. The junior reached double figures in points for the ninth time this season and for the second time in three games. He has hauled in five boards 13 times this season and in each of his last four games and seven of his last eight.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle until the Gophers closed the first half on a 10-4 run to go into the locker room with a 35-34 edge. Trailing 30-25 with 5:05 left in the stanza, O'Farrell scored eight of the next 10 points for Goucher to give the visitors a 35-32 edge with 2:11 on the clock. The Eagles would score a basket with seven seconds left to make it a one-point game at the break.
Fueled by six points by Morton, Goucher started the second half on a 12-4 run to open up a 47-38 lead with 15:25 remaining. The Gophers maintained the lead until a 3-pointer handed the Eagles a 60-59 edge with 6:22 left. Gabe Ceribelli (Monkton, Md./Hereford) answered with a triple with 5:32 to restore the lead at 62-60.
Juniata then scored the next six points to take the lead for good and went on for the 75-67 win.
Ceribelli registered eight points and five rebounds in the loss.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday at home against Drew University. Tipoff is 4 p.m. The day will also be Breast Cancer Awareness Day and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. In addition, a limited number of pink t-shirts will be available for $12, a 50/50 raffle and $1 free throws will also take place with all proceeds going to the Red Devils Organization.
