Ceribelli And Stewart Walk Off Court For Final Time On Saturday In Loss To Scranton
BALTIMORE, Md. – Gabe Ceribelli (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Uvan Stewart (Frederick, Md./St. Maria Gorretti) walked off the court in the waning seconds of the game against the University of Scranton for the final time on Saturday. The Royals defeated Goucher College 59-45 to close out the Gophers season.
Ceribelli scored a team-high 13 points in his final game after connecting on 4 of 8 from the field and from behind the arc along with a 1 of 2 from the foul line. He also added five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Ceribelli appeared in 45 games including 28 starts while registering 422 points, 161 rebounds, 72 assists, 64 steals and seven blocks in his two years with the Gophers. He has scored double figures 13 times this season and 20 times in his career with two 20-point performances including a career-high 23 points against Catholic earlier this year. He also ranks second on the team with 11.3 points per game in his senior campaign.
Stewart registered a rebound, assist and steal in his final game. Stewart played in 74 games in his career including 51 starts and has posted 238 points, 179 rebounds, 59 assists, 42 steals and nine blocks in his three years in a Goucher uniform. He has scored double figures four times in his career including a career-high 13 points against Catholic in his sophomore campaign.
Dwayne Morton (Waynesville, Mo./Waynesville) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. The junior finished with a team-best 14.3 points per game and will go into his senior campaign with 748 career points, needing 252 points to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau.
The game also marked the final game for Goucher in the NABC Coaches Vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. The team estimated that it would connect on 30 baskets from behind the arc and the squad fell just one basket shot of meeting that total, but still raised over $600. Ceribelli accounted for 16 of the 29 treys in the challenge while Morton had seven, Timmy O'Farrell (Davidsonville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had five and Kevin Bell (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) made one basket in the challenge.
Trailing 8-1, Ceribelli keyed an 8-0 run to give the Gophers a 9-8 edge with 14:25 left in the first half. The two teams battled back and forth for the next four minutes before Scranton scored the next nine points to take a 25-16 lead with 5:43 remaining on its way to a 32-20 advantage going into the locker room.
Goucher trimmed the margin to seven points with 11 minutes remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the way.
Pat Goralski (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) added eight points and six rebounds in the loss.
