Liech Kong Selected as Landmark Rookie of the Year, Kong, Jacob Morgan Earn Honorable Mention All-Conference
TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College men's basketball first year forward Liech Kong has been selected as the 2023-24 Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Kong and sophomore guard Jacob Morgan were also each named Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Kong is the Goucher men's basketball program's second Landmark Rookie of the Year. Kong and Morgan are the first Gophers to be recognized as All-Conference since 2017.
Kong, a 6-8 forward from Arlington, Virginia who attended Rock Creek Christian, played in 20 of Goucher's 26 games and was in the starting lineup 16 times. He averaged 10.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game overall, upping those numbers to 11.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in Landmark contests. Kong reached double figures in scoring in 11 contests and over his final six regular season games averaged 14.7 points per game. He finished with four double-doubles and ranked 11th in the Landmark in rebounding and fourth in blocked shots with 25 in 20 games.
Morgan, a 6-0 guard from Bowie, Maryland, led the Gophers in scoring with his 14.4 point per game average while also averaging 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game. He ranks ninth in the conference in scoring, second in assists per game and second in steals per game. Morgan reached double figures in scoring in 22 of the 25 games in which he appeared and his 14.4 ppg average is the highest by a Goucher player since 2019-20.
Goucher finished 8-10 in Landmark Conference play and 10-16 overall, setting a program record for Landmark Conference victories in a season. The Gophers made their first-ever Landmark tournament appearance and improved their win total by seven games from last season under first-year head coach Justin Klingman.
