Gophers Drop Landmark Opener at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University built a 33-22 halftime lead and went on to post a 74-53 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College at Houts Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
- After an early 2-0 Goucher (1-3, 0-1 Landmark) lead, Susquehanna (3-1, 1-0) built a 13-8 lead seven minutes into the game.
- A Jadyss Fifer three at the 11:41 mark pulled the Gophers within two, 13-11.
- The River Hawks led by eight twice, but a tip-in by Fifer with six minutes to go pulled Goucher within four, 21-17.
- A three-point play by Fifer with 4:28 on the clock pulled Goucher within 23-20.
- Susquehanna closed the half on a 10-2 run to go up 33-22 at intermission.
- The hosts scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 40-22.
- A basket by Jaden Workman at the 16:50 mark halted the River Hawk run.
- A layup with 12 minutes to go upped Susquehanna's lead to 55-31.
- The River Hawks maintained at least a 20-point cushion the rest of the way.
- Fifer was the lone Gopher in double figures as he finished with a career-best 19 points of 5-6 shooting and 8-8 at the free throw line.
- Alex Miller and Brian Griffin added six points apiece.
- Goucher, which outrebounded Susquehanna 39-36, shot 39.5% overall and 18-26 at the free throw line, but was just 1-10 from three.
- Susquehann shot 40.6% overall and was 13-17 at the free throw line and 5-23 from three.
- The River Hawks forced 26 Goucher turnovers while committing just nine giveaways.
- Goucher is back in action Saturday, heading to Drew for a 4 pm Landmark Conference tilt.
- The Gophers return home Wednesday, December 4, hosting Moravian at 7 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
