Sizzling First Half Moves Drew Past Gophers

MADISON, N.J. - Host Drew University shot 64.9% in the opening 20 minutes to build a 60-29 halftime lead as it went on to defeat Goucher College 96-76 in Landmark Conference men's basketball Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Gymnasium.
- Goucher (1-4, 0-2 Landmark) opened an early 7-2 lead two minutes in following a Jacob Morgan basket.
- Drew (4-2, 2-0) used a 12-2 run to take a 14-9 lead at the 14:20 mark.
- Five straight points by Liech Kong tied the game 14-14 with 13:45 on the clock.
- A 19-4 Ranger run put the hosts in front 33-18 8:47 before halftime.
- Drew led by as many as 33 and took a 60-29 lead into intermission.
- Drew upped its lead to 34 twice in the opening moments of the second half.
- Goucher used a 14-3 run capped by a Jayden Saunders basket to make it 72-51 with 11:52 to go.
- A basket by Jadyss Fifer with 6:41 remaining made it an 82-65 game.
- That would be as close as the Gophers would get as the Rangers led by 20-plus much of the rest of the way.
- Morgan finished 10-17 from the floor and totaled 22 points, four assists and four steals.
- Kong was the other Gopher in double figures, recording 13 points.
- Fifer and Jaden Workman each added eight points.
- Goucher was 21-32 (65.6%) from the floor in the final 20 minutes and 52.3% from the field for the game. The Gophers were 3-9 from three and 5-7 at the free throw line.
- The Rangers were 24-37 in the opening 20 minutes and shot 55.4% for the game. Drew was 10-28 from three and 14-22 at the charity stripe.
- The hosts held a 34-30 rebound advantage.
- Goucher continues its road swing Tuesday, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for an 8 pm game.
