Goucher College men's golf head coach Hunter Brown was named the 2017-18 Landmark Conference Coach of the Year, as five Gophers earned All-Landmark Conference honors on Wednesday.
Nabbing spots on the All-Landmark Conference First Team were first-years Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J.) and Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas), while three first-years were named to the Conference's second team: Evan Yue (Beijing, China), Joe Burns (Kinnelon, N.J.), and Wade Howard (Weston, Fla.).
With the five selections to the All-Landmark Conference team, Goucher also accomplished an impressive feat. Each of the five starters on the weekend at the Landmark Championships finished in the top 12 individually, thus earning All-Landmark honors for their efforts.
Brown was a deserving winner of the Landmark's Coach of the Year award, as he guided the Gophers - in their first season as an intercollegiate program - to the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship last weekend at Glenmaura Country Club in Moosic, Pa.
On the weekend, Goucher finished with a combined score of 649 (315-334) to edge out runners-up and host Scranton by three shots. With the win, the Gophers clinched an automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, which will be contested in Greensboro, N.C. next week.
Individually, Lee and Miske led the way last weekend with top-five finishes to nab All-Landmark First Team honors. They both shared the lead after the First Round with a pair of 77s, but despite not scoring as well in tough conditions on Sunday, still registered high finishes with Lee placing third (77-83: 160) and Miske playing fifth (77-84: 161).
Elsewhere, Yue finished just outside the top five with a seventh place finish over the weekend at Glenmaura (80-84:164), while Burns was just behind him in ninth place (81-84: 165). Howard rounds out the All-Landmark selections, as he finished 11th overall (84-83: 167).
