UPDATED: Goucher’s Evan Yue Falls in Playoff, as Gophers finish 35th at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the second straight day at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships, weather played a factor, as first-year Evan Yue (Beijing, China) of Goucher College qualified a four-way playoff for the final spot in the individual field for the last two days of the Championships.

Update (9:45 a.m.): First-year Evan Yue fell to Calvin's Ben VanScoyk for the sixth and final spot inside the cutline on Thursday morning. He finishes the Championships in a tie for 39th overall. 

GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the second straight day at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, weather played a factor, as first-year Evan Yue (Beijing, China) of Goucher College qualified a four-way playoff for the final spot in the individual field for the last two days of the Championships.

But, as the playoff was about to begin, the action was called due to darkness, as the Second Round of the NCAA Championships wrapped up in earnest on a long and busy day at the Grandover Resort on Wednesday.

As a team, Goucher will finish their first NCAA Championship placing 35th overall with a two-day score of 635 (319-316).

The day on Wednesday began for Goucher early, as the Gophers and several other teams had to finish the first round of play, which was called on Tuesday afternoon due to inclement weather. Shortly after finishing the first round, Goucher went back out to kick-off the second, taking part in the first shotgun start to a round in NCAA Championship history.

The story of the day for Goucher was Yue, who finished his first round with a three-over 75, then went out and fired a one-over 73 to end of the day on Wednesday to find himself in a four-way playoff for the final spot in the individual field for the rest of the week. At one point during Yue's second round, he was -2, before falling back to one-over by the end of his round.

Yue will now take on Grady Anderson of North Carolina Wesleyan, Ryan Muthiora of Kenyon, and Ben VanScoyk of Calvin beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday for the final spot inside the cutline. Unfortunately, Yue fell in the playoff to VanScoyk of Calvin on Thursday morning.
