A theme continues as we announce our third All-Goucher First Team selection for the 2017-18 athletics year. That theme - first-year student-athletes continue to garner selections, as Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas) of the men's golf team has earned a spot on this years team.
Mikse was one of the leaders for a men's golf team that made history in 2017-18, as they not only were the first Goucher College men's golf team to compete on an intercollegiate level, but they also captured the very first Landmark Conference Championship in early May.
At that Landmark Championship, which was held at Glenmaura National Golf Club outside of Scranton, Mikse earned All-Landmark Conference First Team accolades, posting a two-day score of 161 (77-84) to place fifth overall in the event to nab the final All-Landmark First Team selection.
Mikse was one of the leaders on the weekend at Glenmaura, as the Gophers finished with a two-day score of 649 (315-334) to capture the Landmark Conference title, clinching the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, N.C. There, the Gophers finished 35th as a team.
For the year, Mikse was Goucher's team leader in scoring average, finishing the year at 79.14. His low round of 72 came in September at the NCWC Don Scalf Invite, which was the second lowest score in a round for a Gopher on the 2017-18 season.
Mikse joins fellow first-year student-athletes in teammate Steph Lee and men's tennis' Tetsuya Ota as the first three All-Goucher First Team selections to be announced.
The fourth All-Goucher First Team selection will be announced on Thursday afternoon. For more on the All-Goucher Team, click here.
