Men's Golf Opens Campaign with Fifth Place Finish at NC Wesleyan Invitational
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Goucher College men's golf team opened their 2018-19 season over the last two days at the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational, and the Gophers finished in a tie for fifth overall in the event, finishing with a team score of 617.

The Gophers, who finished tied with Averett in the event, recorded a top-five finish as a team in a strong field. Taking the event was host North Carolina Wesleyan, who finished the event with a team score of 577.
In the invitational, Goucher was led individually by first-year Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica), who fired a 69 in his first collegiate round at Bellmont Lake Golf Club on Sunday, then followed it up with a 74 today to finish third overall with a combined score of 143. Sophomore Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas) also opened the season with a strong finish, placing in a tie for 17th with a total score of 152 (80-72).
Rounding out the finishers for the Gophers were first-year Nicholas Fisher (Fishers, Ind.), who placed in a tie for 44th overall (77-85:162), while sophomore's Evan Yue (Beijing, China) and Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J.) finished in a tie for 48th (82-81:163) and 51st (79-85:164), respectively, at the event.
The Goucher College men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, as they take part in the McDaniel Fall Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottsville, Pa. The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
