Gonzalez Finishes Second At Pfeiffer Invitational To Power Goucher Men's Golf To Fifth-Place Standing
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) shot a one-under par final round to move up to second place and lead the Goucher College men's golf team to a fifth-place standing at the Pfeiffer Invitational on Tuesday.
Gonzalez sat in ninth place after shooting a 77 in the opening round on Monday. With his 71 in the final round, the freshman moved up to second place with a two-round total of 148, three strokes behind the medalist. Gonzalez has now participated in five collegiate events and has recording two first-place finishes, two second-place standings and a third.
Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) (12th place, 159), Evan Yue (Bejiing, China/IMG Academy) (24th place, 165) Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J./Saint John Vianney) (27th place, 166) and Nicholas Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) (31st place, 169) also competed for the Gophers in the first event of the spring for the team.
Mars Hill won the two-day event with a score of 598, 30 strokes ahead of Bridgewater (628) while Adrian (630), Baldwin Wallace (630) and Goucher (638) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field.
Goucher College returns to action at the McDaniel Invitational on March 30.
