Yue Plays Even Par To Sit Third And Help Goucher Men's Golf To Second After One Round Of Goucher Spring Invitational
PHOENIX, Md. – Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) shot an even round to finish third after the first round to pace Goucher College men's golf to a second-place standing at the Goucher Spring Invitational on Sunday.
Yue posted a birdie on three and a bogey on five to finish the front nine with a 36. He then repeated the feat with a birdie on 13 and a bogey on 14 to post an even round of 72 to sit in third place, two strokes behind the current leader.
Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) sits two strokes behind Yue and four strokes behind the leader after carding a two-over par round of 74. The freshman had a slow start to his afternoon after recording bogeys on the first and third holes. He then birdied six and bogeyed eight to hit the back nine with a two-over 38. Gonzalez then bogeyed 10 and 15 while notching birdies on 13 and 18 to register an even back nine holes to sit in fourth with a 74.
Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J./Saint John Vianney) also sits in the Top-10 with a seventh-place standing with a round of 78. Nicholas Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) are tied for 12th after carding a 79 in the opening round.
Lynchburg leads the two-day event with a score of 297, six strokes ahead of Goucher (303) while Stevenson (313), Catholic (328) and McDaniel "B" (333) round out the Top-5 teams in a seven-team field.
Joe Burns (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) (20th place, 83), Kaman Wilkinson (Granbury, Texas/Godley) (31st place, 90) and Tomas Rodriguez (Richmond, Texas/George Bush) (39th place, 105) competed in the event as individuals.
Goucher returns to action in the final round of the Goucher Spring Invitational on Monday. Tee time has been moved up to 8:30 a.m. to try and avoid heavy winds scheduled to come into the area.
