BALTIMORE, Md. - Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkley Academy), a member of the Goucher College men's golf team, has been named an NCAA Division III PING honorable mention All-America announced on Tuesday by Golf Coaches Association of America.
Gonzalez continues to add to his mantle with his eighth award in his freshman campaign. Along with gaining honorable mention All-America status, he was named to the NCAA Division III PING All-Mid-Atlantic Region team while playing in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky. In addition at the conference level, the freshman was named to the All-Landmark Conference first team and garnered four Landmark Conference Player of the Week honors. In the second season in program history, Gonzalez is the first player in team history to receive All-America recognition. He was also named to the All-Goucher first team, an honor handed out by the Goucher athletics department.
Gonzalez had an impressive first year for the men's golf team including finishing in a tie for the low score at the Landmark Conference Championships with a two-round score of 145. The freshman finished second after losing a playoff, but helped the men's golf team to its second-straight conference crown. The freshman finished in the Top-3 in five events and in the Top-10 in seven of the nine competitions. The freshman won back-to-back events in the fall with the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic and the Landmark Conference Preview seven days later. Gonzalez carded five rounds under par including a career-best 69 in the opening round at both the Don Scalf Invitational and the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic and had eight rounds of par or below in his freshman campaign.
