Gonzalez Starts New Year With Fifth Landmark Conference Golfer Of The Week Honor
BALTIMORE, Md. – Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy), a member of the Goucher men's golf team, has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the start of the season. It is the first time this season he has earned the weekly honor and the fifth time in his two seasons.
Gonzalez finished ninth to lead Goucher College to a fourth-place finish at the Inaugural Spartans Invitational over the weekend. The sophomore shot a 75 in the opening round and a 77 in the second round to post a two-round score of 152 Gonzalez had four birdies in the two rounds.
Gonzalez finished tied with the Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championships, but lost in a playoff to finish second. The sophomore was selected to the All-Landmark Conference first team, the NCAA Division III PING All-Mid-Atlantic Region team and an NCAA Division III PING All-America honorable mention last season.
The sophomore earned the weekly honor in the final three weeks of the fall in his freshman campaign and for the week of Mar. 4-10, 2019. Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) is the only other Gopher to earn the award with recognition twice with an honor as a freshman and sophomore.
Goucher returns to action at the Don Scalf Invitational on Sept. 22.
