Yue Cards Top Goucher Men's Golf Score After First Round Of Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) finished the first round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic in 12th place to lead Goucher College to an eighth-place standing on Saturday.
Yue shot a three-over round of 75 to sit in 12th place going into the final round, three strokes behind the current leader that carded an even-par score of 72. After a bogeys on No. 2 and 3 and a birdie on No. 4, the junior made the turn with a one-over par 37 and then had bogeys on No. 10, 13 and 17 along with a birdie on No. 16 to go into the clubhouse with a two-over 38 on the back nine.
Nick Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) also sits in the Top-20 with a four-over 76 to rank 19th. The sophomore had a double bogey on the first hole and a birdie on No. 2 to then head to the back nine with a one-over par 37. He then got back to even par with a birdie on No. 10, but then went bogeys on No. 11 and 12, triple bogey on No. 14 and birdie on 18 to register his third-straight round in the 70s and fourth in five rounds this season.
Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) (45th place, 78), Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J./St. John Vianney) (45th place, 78) and Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) (53rd place, 79) rounded out the Gophers team competitors. The trio each had three birdies on the afternoon with Gonzalez (No. 8, 15, 18), Lee (No. 8, 9, 18) and Mikse (No. 1, 5, 13) each hit the red on the scorecard.
McDaniel leads its own two-day tournament with a score of 296, one stroke ahead of York (Pa.) (297) while Kenyon (302), Gettysburg (302) and Franklin & Marshall (303) round out the Top-5 teams in the 18-team field.
Goucher sits in eighth place with a 307, three strokes ahead of Landmark Conference foe Drew (310) while the Gophers also got their first look at Catholic (318) and Susquehanna (328).
Goucher returns to action in the final round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
