Fisher-Yue Tandem Helps Goucher Men's Golf Move Up Five Spots To Third At Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic
ABBOTTSTOWN , Pa. – Nick Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) finished tied for 10th to help the Goucher College men's golf team move up five spots to finish third at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
Fisher had the better round on Sunday with a 75 after carding a 76 in the opening round while Yue had the scores reversed with a 75 in the first round and a 76 on Sunday to finish in an eight-way tie in 10th place with a two-round score of 151, five strokes behind the medalist.
Fisher shot a three-over 39 on the front nine in the final round after registering a double bogey on No. 3, bogeys on No. 4 and 7 and a birdie on No. 8. The sophomore then posted birdies on No. 15 and 18 and bogeys on No. 16 and 17 for an even par 36 final nine holes. Fisher posted his second-best two-round score after carding a 150 at the Don Scalf Invitational on Monday.
Yue carded a 39 on the first nine holes after bogeys on No. 1, 3, 5 and 7 along with a birdie on No. 8. The junior then shot a 37 on the back nine thanks to bogeys on No. 12, 14 and a birdie on No. 18.
Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J./St. John Vianney) (18th place, 152), Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) (26th place, 153) and Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) (48th place, 157) also competed for the Gophers. Lee carded birdies on No. 4, 8, and 12 while Gonzalez had birdies on No. 5, 8 and 12 and Mikse registered birdies on No. 1, 5 and 15.
McDaniel won its own event with a two-round score of 593, 11 strokes ahead of York (Pa.) (604) while Goucher (607), Franklin & Marshall (609) and Swarthmore (609) rounded out the Top-5 teams in an 18-team field.
After posting the eighth-best score in the first round with a 307, the Gophers moved up five spots after carding the second-best final round with a score of 300 to end with a two-day score of 607. Goucher finished 20 strokes ahead of Landmark Conference competition Drew (627) and ahead of Catholic (636) and Susquehanna (649).
The Gophers will return to action when they head to the Landmark Conference Fall Preview on October 6.
