Cameron Hollek Returns To Goucher College As The Men's And Women's Golf Head Coach
BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College Director of Athletics/Associate Dean of Students Andrew Wu has announced that former men's and women's golf assistant coach Cameron Hollek will rejoin the college as the men's and women's golf head coach. Hollek replaces Hunter Brown, who resigned in the fall to pursue a Master's Degree at the University of Oxford.
"While I'm delighted to have Coach Hollek stepping into the head coach role, I think the excitement of our student-athletes speaks volumes about what Cameron will bring to the table," said Wu. "Not only did he play a major role in the establishment and incredible rise of our golf programs, but he also formed strong bonds with our golfers during his time as an assistant coach. His transition will be as seamless as we could ask, and I'm looking forward to this second stage of Goucher golf."
Hollek served as the graduate assistant/assistant coach for the Gophers men's and women's golf teams in the first two seasons in program history, and then he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2019-20 campaign. Hollek helped the men's golf team to the Landmark Conference championship in the first three years the league sponsored the sport. The women's golf squad continues to build the program into a contender and has finished third in the first three seasons in the league.
"I'm extremely grateful and excited to be rejoining the Goucher family as the golf coach," said Hollek. "It was a special opportunity to be a part of the program's first years, and this is a chance to help carry on that legacy. I'm excited to get back with team and especially to finish with the seniors who started three years ago."
Hollek developed and mentored current All-Landmark Conference players Joe Burns (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) (2018 second team), Nick Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) (2019 second team), Stephan Lee (Manalapan, N.J./Saint John Vianney) (2018 first team & 2019 second team), Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) (2018 second team), Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) (2018 first team), Christina Pevey (Post, Texas/Post) (2018 & 2019 first team), Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore./South Medford) (2018 first team & 2019 second team) and Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) (2018 second team & 2019 first team) and a total of 14 all-conference honors between the two programs. Also, Brown was named the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019 with Hollek on staff.
The Blue and Gold men's golf team has won six team tournaments in three years while the women's golf team has recorded a program-best second-place standing three times.
Hollek, who served as a special education teacher for Baltimore City schools for the fall semester, also served as a graduate intern at nearby Johns Hopkins University, working in the Student-Athlete Success for the 2018-19 academic year.
Hollek was a member of the University of Texas – Arlington men's golf team for five years from 2008 to 2013, and he was a teammate of Brown. He finished second two times in his career, including twice in his senior year at the Norwood Fall Shootout and the St. Edwards Individual Championship. At the Norwood Fall Shootout in his senior year, he finished with a personal-best three-round score of 209 (seven strokes under par). Hollek also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for five years.
Hollek graduated from the University of Texas – Arlington in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and earned his Master in Education in Sport Program Leadership from Goucher in 2019.
What They Are Saying About Hollek:
Hunter Brown (Former Goucher College Golf Head Coach)
"I couldn't be more excited about Cameron taking over as head coach. This really is the best case scenario for the program. Cameron was such an integral part to the launch of both of our programs and there is no way we could have had the success we had without him. The smile on the players faces when they heard the news really says it all. They respect Coach Hollek and have great confidence in what he is going to do. Cameron has Division I playing experience, professional playing experience, and has caddied on the PGA tour multiple times. The depth of his background really brings a lot to the table. Excited to see where the program goes under his leadership."
Jay Rees, McMurry University Head Coach (Hollek's college coach at the University of Texas – Arlington)
"Cameron was always a hard worker for me, and I saw firsthand at the NCAA National Championship in 2020 his interaction with the men's golf team of Goucher College. I knew that if he put his energies into coaching, he would be a "natural" because he cares about people and helping them get better every day! He is a man of faith and that will serve him well as he becomes a positive mentor in the lives of the Men & Women that attend Goucher College! I am very proud to hear that Cameron choose to peruse becoming a college golf coach! Cameron is a part of my family and I will always help him with any questions he may have in the future. I look forward to following Cameron's success with the golf teams at Goucher Collège in the years to come!
