Former LPGA Player Schechter, Kung Added to Golf Staff
TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College head men's and women's golf coach Matt Shur announced recently that former LPGA Tour player Maia Schechter and Sam Kung have joined the Gopher golf coaching staff ahead of the 2023-24 season. Schechter will serve as a volunteer assistant, while Kung will serve as the program's graduate assistant.
Schechter, who is enrolled in Goucher's post-baccalaureate premed program, played on the LPGA Tour from 2019-21, competing in a total of 20 events over that timeframe. From 2016-19 Schechter competed on the LPGA Epson Tour, competing in 66 tournaments. She was victorious at the 2018 Four Winds Invitational and also captured the 2018 Potawatomi Cup. Schechter was a two-year member of the tour's Player Advisory Group. She also competed on the Ladies European Tour in 2015-16.
Schechter was a four-year member of the women's golf team at the University of North Carolina. She graduate from UNC in 2015 with a B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science with Distinction, American Studies, and a minor in Spanish for the Medical Professions.
Kung, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, played collegiately at Menlo College in Atherton, California. He started playing golf at the age of 13. Kung has worked as a swing coach at Oak Valley Golf Academy, Taipei branch and as an assistant coach at National Garden Golf Academy. He recently earned his Taiwan PGA card.
