Gophers Open Spring With Fourth Place at Sandhills Splash
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Buoyed by three players in the top 15, the Goucher College men's golf team finished fourth out of seven schools at the Sandhills Splash at Longleaf Golf and Family Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Gophers carded a 317 on Monday and a 309 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 626.
Calvin took first place with a score of 596, followed by Southern Virginia (609) and William Peace (619). Ohio Wesleyan (639), Marymount (Va.) (644) and Arcadia (654) rounded out the field.
Graduate student Evan Yue led the Gophers with his eighth place finish, posting a 151 over two days including a 74 on Tuesday. Yue had a pair of birdies and four bogeys on Tuesday on the par-72, 6682-yard layout.
Khai Buttner finished tied for 13th as he totaled 156 over two days, including a 77 on Tuesday. Riley Ruby fired a 77 on day two and his 157 was good for a tie for 15th.
Tyler Lynch posted back-to-back rounds of 81 and placed tied for 23rd, while Zeer Vittadanont finished tied for 27th with a 165, including an 82 on Tuesday. All five Gophers maintained or improved their score from Monday to Tuesday.
Goucher is back in action March 23-24 at The Ruckus at Williamsburg National Golf Course.
