Gophers Tie for Top Spot at Cardinal Spring Classic
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Goucher College men's golf team finished tied for first with host Catholic University at the Cardinal Spring Classic held Saturday and Sunday at Black Rock Golf Club. The Gophers held sole possession of first after Saturday's opening round, then shot 301 on Sunday for a two-day score of 615 to tie with the Cardinals, who made up an eight-shot deficit with a 293 on Sunday.
Sunday's round of 301 is tied for the second-lowest round of the season by the Gophers.
Shenandoah B finished third with a two-day total of 628, followed by Marymount (Va.) in fourth with a score of 633. Hood finished fifth at 641.
First year Riley Ruby finished second with a two-day score of 148, four shots behind medalist Colin Coogan of Catholic who fired a five-under 67 on Sunday. Ruby held the lead after 18 holes with a 75 and shot a one-over 73 on Sunday.
Evan Yue finished third overall after shooting 75 Sunday and posting a two-day total of 152. Khai Buttner totaled 156 over the two days, including a 77 on Sunday. Andy Hill Garcia lowered his score by seven shots Sunday with a 76 and totaled 159 for the tournament. Zeer Vittadanont rounded out the team finishers with a 167 over 36 holes.
The Gophers also three individuals competing, led by Gidi Katz finishing at 161 after carding an 81 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday. Tyler Lynch and Mikolaj Pula each finished at 164 for the tournament, with Pula turning in a 78 and Lynch a 79 on Sunday.
Goucher men's golf is back in action Sunday, April 14 at the Dickinson Spring Invitational.
