Gophers Tie Single Round Record, Win Stevenson Invitational
UPPERCO, Md. - The Goucher College men's golf team tied a program record for lowest single round score, shooting 295, as it took first place out of 11 teams at the Stevenson University Spring Invitational Thursday at Piney Branch Golf Club.
The Gophers, who have finished first or second in their last three tournaments heading into next weekend's Landmark Conference Championship, tied the program record of 295 set last season at the Cardinal Spring Invitational. Goucher edged the host Mustangs by one stroke, with Alvernia University (300), Albright College (302) and Catholic University (307) rounding out the top five.
Relative to par, Goucher's +11 is the sixth-lowest single round score.
Evan Yue finished tied for fourth with an even-par 71 on the 6,493-yard layout, finishing three shots behind medalist Sean Dowd of Stevenson. Yue posted his fourth top-five finish of the season.
The Gophers had two other players in the top-10. Andy Hill Garcia finished tied for sixth with his two-over 73, while Khai Buttner placed ninth, checking in at 74.
Riley Ruby and Mikolaj Pula finished tied for 17th with each posting rounds of 77. Pula was competing as an individual. Gidi Katz rounded out the Gopher finishers with an 81, placing tied for 31st.
Goucher is idle until next Saturday and Sunday (April 27-28) at the Landmark Conference Championship at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pennsylvania.
