TOWSON, MD — Goucher had lost only one time in their
last seven non-conference games played in Gopher Stadium before
Virginia Wesleyan came to town today and departed with a 13-10
victory over the Gophers.
The Gophers (5-7) finished with a 50-46 edge in shots, but the only
time they led in the contest was when Bryant Boucher (North
Wales, PA/North Penn) tallied an unassisted goal with 4:56
remaining in the first quarter to snap a 1-1 tie. Before the period
ended, however, the Marlins (7-4) pulled even on an unassisted goal
by Jordan Kenney.
Kenney struck for three goals in the second quarter, including a
pair just :39 apart on an extra-man opportunity. At the half,
Virginia Wesleyan enjoyed a 7-4 lead.
Goucher fell behind by as many as five goals in the third quarter,
but closed to within 11-8 on a goal by Sam Fitzpatrick
(Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) in the final minute of the
period. They further reduced their deficit to 12-10 when
Dan Flamholz (Baltimore, MD/Park School) tallied
his fifth goal of the contest with 8:54 left to play, boosting his
team-leading total for the season to 22.
In addition to his five goals, Flamholz was also awarded a pair of
assists. Ross Nochumowitz (Baltimore, MD/Park
School) picked up assists on three of Flamholz's goals and
a fourth on a goal by Dave Duff (Westwood, MA/Suffield
Academy).
