Flamholz Picks Up 100th Career Assist in 8-2 TriumphApril 25, 2007
TOWSON, MD — Goucher kept its chances of finishing
with a winning record in 2007 alive today by pinning an 8-2 setback
on Moravian before a Gopher Stadium crowd of 135.
When Dan Flamholz (Baltimore, MD/Park School) was
awarded an assist on the extra-man goal Ross Nochumowitz
(Baltimore, MD/Park School) scored midway through the
first quarter to put the Gophers (8-8) ahead 1-0, he became the
first player in the history of the school's men's lacrosse program
to reach 100 career assists.
Flamholz tallied his only goal of the contest just before time
expired in the first quarter, boosting Goucher's lead to 3-0.
Following a scoreless second period, the Greyhounds (2-13) got on
the scoreboard for the first time 1:30 into the third quarter on a
goal by Cruz Sierra. The Gophers, however, scored the next three
goals of the contest to open up a 6-1 advantage.
Goucher outscored Moravian, 2-0, in the fourth period. An
unassisted goal by Casey Hughes (Granite, MD/Mt.
Hebron) with 10:24 remaining put the Gophers ahead 7-2; an
extra-man goal by Brent Shea (Fallston,
MD/Fallston) with 6:28 left to play made the score
8-2.
Goucher, which closes out its season against St. Vincent on
Saturday and will finish above .500 with a victory, unleashed a
total of 47 shots in today's game, forcing goalie Benjamin Larson
of the Greyhounds to make 17 saves.
Moravian is the third of three teams on the Gophers' 2007 schedule
that will be joining Goucher in the new Landmark Conference in
2007-08. Earlier, head coach Kyle Hannan's squad defeated Catholic,
which, like Goucher, will be leaving the Capital Athletic
Conference for the Landmark, and Drew, which like Moravian,
currently resides in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The other
schools that will be in the Landmark Conference are Juniata,
Scranton, Susquehanna and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
