TOWSON, MD — Goucher took over sole possession of
third place in the Capital Athletic Conference today by pinning an
8-4 setback on Marymount.
Both teams produced three goals in the first quarter, but after
tying the score at 3-3 midway through the period on an unassisted
goal by Kevin Conklin, the Saints (4-8, 2-4 CAC) went 28:43 before
scoring their next goal. The Gophers (5-4, 4-2 CAC) tallied the
only goal of the second quarter, going ahead to stay when
Casey Hughes (Granite, MD/Mt. Hebron) stuck one in
the cage with only :44 remaining before halftime.
Goals by Alan Tiet (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) and
Sam Fitzpatrick (Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) in the
first five minutes of the third quarter bumped Goucher's lead to
6-3 before Marymount picked up an unassisted goal by P.J. Keshavarz
to close to within 6-4. Before the end of the period, however, the
Gophers regained a three-goal cushion on an unassisted goal by
David Jadin (Chanhassen, MN/The Blake School).
Bryant Boucher (North Wales, PA/North Penn) closed
out the scoring with 3:46 remaining in the fourth quarter with his
second goal of the contest for the Gophers.
Both goalkeepers reached double figures in saves. Austin
Main (Berlin, MD/Stephen Decatur) of the Gophers was
credited with 10 saves, while his counterpart, Alex Hammer, turned
12 Goucher shots away.
With their eighth straight victory over Marymount, the Gophers
assumed an 11-10 advantage in the all-time series between the two
schools.
