Sea Gulls Regain Control with Six-Goal Run

But the Sea Gulls, who were looking to extend their all-time record in Capital Athletic Conference contests to 80-0, regained the lead with a run of six unanswered goals and went on to defeat the Gophers, 19-4.

Shea (Fallston, MD/Fallston) allowed Goucher to pull into
a 2-2 tie with Salisbury today. But the Sea Gulls, who were looking
to extend their all-time record in Capital Athletic Conference
contests to 80-0, regained the lead with a run of six unanswered
goals and went on to defeat the Gophers, 19-4.
Matt Hickman, who finished with five goals in the victory,
provided the Sea Gulls with a 2-0 advantage with a pair of
unassisted goals in the opening 2:10. Shea put the Gophers on the
scoreboard for the first time with an unassisted goal with 11:53
remaining in the first quarter and created a 2-2 tie when he
tallied the only extra-man goal for either team the entire
contest.
Goucher (0-1, 0-1 CAC) wouldn't score again for more than 20
minutes. By the time Alan Tiet (Aurora, CO/Smoky
Hill) ended the drought with an unassisted goal with 4:23
remaining before halftime, the Sea Gulls (4-0, 3-0 CAC) had built
up an 8-2 advantage.
The Gophers were limited to six shots and an unassisted goal by
Brian Hoge (Crofton, MD/Arundel) in the second
half.
Hickman's five goals boost his total for the season to 17.
Jerod Richardson (Fallston, MD/Fallston) handled
every face-off for the Gophers, winning 16 of them to became the
all-time leader in face-offs won at Goucher. The junior
midfielder's new total of 403 wins places him ahead of the former
record-holder, Craig Wolinski (1995-98), who won 394 face-offs
during his four-year career.
