TOWSON, MD — An unassisted goal by David
Jadin (Chanhassen, MN/The Blake School) 3:56 into overtime
today provided Goucher with its first Capital Athletic Conference
win of the season, a 7-6 triumph over Mary Washington.
The freshman long-stick midfielder's first collegiate goal allowed
the Gophers (2-4, 1-2 CAC) to snap a seven-game losing streak in
games deadlocked at the end of regulation. The last time Goucher
prevailed in overtime was an 8-7 victory over Randolph-Macon on
March 15, 2003.
Overtime didn't seem very likely today with the Gophers leading 6-4
with less than a minute remaining in regulation, but goals by Scott
Fletcher with :32 left to play and Tommy Park with :15 showing on
the clock allowed the Eagles (2-6, 1-3 CAC) to catch up.
In overtime, sophomore goalkeeper Austin Main (Berlin,
MD/Stephen Decatur) of the Gophers made two saves, raising
his total for the game to 14. His counterpart, Eric Everitt,
finished with 10 saves, including one in OT.
Despite being out-shot, 16-8, the Gophers managed to reach halftime
tied with Mary Washington at 2-2. They took their first lead of the
contest 1:10 into the third quarter on an unassisted extra-man goal
by Sam Fitzpatrick (Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) and,
by the end of the period, they were ahead 5-3.
Even though they extended their winning streak against the Eagles
to four games, the Gophers still trail the all-time series with
Mary Washington, 12-6.
