Goucher Places 112 on CAC All-Academic Team

GOUCHER PLACES 112 ON CAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - Goucher concluded its 16-year affiliation with the Capital Athletic Conference as the leader in percentage of student-athletes who made the league's 2006-07 All-Academic Team, which was unveiled today.

Of the 202 student-athletes from Goucher who were competitors in good standing in one or more of the sports which are sponsored by the CAC, 112 of them earned All-Academic recognition from the conference by achieving a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the entire academic year. The 2006-07 All-Academic Team contained the names of 942 student-athletes from the 10 member institutions.

York placed the most student-athletes - a total of 161 - on the All-Academic Team. Salisbury (148) and Catholic (116) also finished with more All-Academic performers than Goucher.

But percentage-wise, Goucher out-performed the other nine institutions with 55.45 percent of its eligible student-athletes making the team. St. Mary's (Md.) came in second at 48.62 percent and the overall conference-wide percentage was 40.97 percent.

The following men's lacrosse players represented Goucher on the 2006-07 CAC All-Academic Team: Daniel Abrams (Dover, DE/Dover), William Beaver (Frederick, MD/Urbana), Alex Boucher (North Wales, PA/Germantown Academy), Bryant Boucher (North Wales, PA/North Penn), Dan Flamholz (Baltimore, MD/Park School), Austin Hayes (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), Casey Hughes (Granite, MD/Mt. Hebron), Andrew Nielsen (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven), Ross Nochumowitz (Baltimore, MD/Park School), Brent Shea (Fallston, MD/Fallston) and Nick Wilks (Vashon Island, WA/Vashon). 

"It's a good feeling to leave the CAC as the recognized leader in academic values," said Geoffrey Miller, Director of Physical Education and Athletics at Goucher. "In fact, we've led in this category three of the past four years. I certainly believe this conveys the fact that, at Goucher, we place the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience of our student-athletes."

Goucher, which has been a member of the CAC since 1991-92, begins its first season in the new Landmark Conference starting this fall.
