BALTIMORE, Md. - The three starting attackmen for Goucher combined to score 14 goals in leading the Gophers (3-0) to a convincing 21-6 victory over Washington & Jefferson today at Homewood Field on the Johns Hopkins campus.
The win provided the Gophers with their first 3-0 start to a season in the 17-year history of Goucher's men's lacrosse program.
Sam Fitzpatrick (Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) and Adam Pietrocarlo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier Central) tallied two goals apiece in the first quarter, which ended with the Gophers leading 7-1.
Fitzpatrick added two more goals in the second period, including one with :01 showing on the clock, as head coach Kyle Hannan's squad was ahead at the end of the first half, 11-2.
Pietrocarlo collected his fourth and fifth goals of the contest in the third period and Fitzpatrick concluded his five-goal, three-assist performance with an extra-man goal and an assist on an even-strength goal by Casey Hughes (Woodstock, MD/Mt. Hebron) in the fourth quarter. Hughes, the third starting attackman, supplied the Gophers with four goals and a pair of assists.
Brian Hoge (Crofton, MD/Arundel) and Cooper Mazon (Littleton, CO/Mullen) both contributed two goals to the win, while Goucher's remaining goals were scored by Dave Duff (Westwood, MA/Suffield Academy), Alan Tiet (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) and Max Walters (Rocky River, OH/St. Ignatius).
Russ Kalkstein had a hand in four goals for the Presidents (0-2), scoring three times and picking up an assist.
