MADISON, N.J. — A senior attacker on Goucher's women's lacrosse team and the starting goalkeeper on the school's men's lacrosse team were among the student-athletes who earned Player of the Week honors from the Landmark Conference for the seven-day period which ended March 23.
Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County), the leading scorer in the Landmark Conference, was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse. During the Gophers' Spring Break trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., she tallied six goals against Colorado College before becoming the first Goucher player to surpass 10 points in a game since 2001 when she scored a career-high eight goals and picked up three assists against Connecticut College.
Through six games this season, Blatter had 30 goals and 12 assists.
For the second time this season, Austin Main (Berlin, MD/Stephen Decatur) was selected Defensive Player of the Week for the sport of men's lacrosse. He registered 11 saves and allowed only seven goals when the Gophers played Mary Washington and stopped 16 of the 34 shots Merchant Marine managed to get off during a 7-5 triumph over the Mariners that has head coach Kyle Hannan's squad tied for first place with Scranton in the Landmark Conference.
Through seven games this season, the junior goalkeeper has a 5.85 goals-against average.
