TOWSON, Md. - Both of Goucher's lacrosse teams have cleared the first hurdles on the way to possible Landmark Conference championships - making the conference playoffs.
Both have earned the No. 2 seed in their respective conference tournament and, as a result, will host a semifinal. The women will take on third-seeded Drew in Gopher Stadium at 4:00 on Tuesday; the following day, the men will hook up with third-seeded Scranton in a game set to begin at 3:30.
The championship games for both tournaments will take place Saturday at the site of the highest-seeded team still alive. In the women's tournament, the other semifinal will take place on Wednesday and it matches No. 1 Catholic against No. 4 Susquehanna. Drew is the top seed in the men's field and is set to face fourth-seeded Merchant Marine in Wednesday's other semifinal.
Both Goucher teams have already defeated the opponents they will face in the semifinals: head coach Katie Trainor's women's squad pinned an 11-10 setback on Drew back on April 5, the same day Goucher's men outlasted Scranton, 7-6, in overtime.
Fans attending the upcoming Landmark Conference championship tournaments for men's and women's lacrosse should be advised that it is Landmark Conference policy to charge admission to all playoff games. The admission price for adults is $5 and for non-Landmark students and seniors it is $3. Students who attend a Landmark school and children 10 years and under are admitted free. All students must present a current school ID card or they will be charged as adults.
