MADISON, N.J. - In picking players to make up the 2008 All-Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Team, the head coaches in the conference filled one third of the spots with players from Goucher's roster.
Voting was done by position and the All-Landmark Team includes a first team and a second unit, both with 12 players on each team. Players from Goucher filled eight of the 24 openings, including four on the first team.
The first-team selections from head coach Kyle Hannan's squad are senior midfielder Dave Duff (Westwood, MA/Suffield Academy), junior attackman Sam Fitzpatrick (Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) and a pair of defenseman - senior William Beaver (Gaithersburg, MD/Urbana) and junior Andy Nielsen (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven).
The Goucher players who earned spots on the second team are junior midfielders Brian Hoge (Crofton, MD/Arundel) and Alex Boucher (North Wales, PA/Germantown Academy), sophomore long-stick midfielder David Jadin (Chanhassen, MN/The Blake School) and junior goalkeeper Austin Main (Berlin, MD/Stephen Decatur). The coaches voted Boucher onto the all-conference team as a specialist.
Fitpatrick and Duff shared the team lead in goals in 2008 with 28 apiece. Fitzpatrick also supplied the Gophers with a team-high 22 assists for 50 points and was one of only five players in the Landmark Conference to average more than 3.0 points per game, while Duff led the conference with 13 extra-man goals.
Beaver and Nielsen were the only two defensemen to start all 16 games for Goucher this season. Combined, they collected 104 ground balls and anchored a defensive unit that surrendered only 5.75 goals per game.
Among Hoge's 24 goals this season were a team-leading three game-winning goals, including the one he scored in overtime to lift the Gophers past Scranton, 7-6, in a Landmark Conference contest on April 5. Boucher contributed 11 goals, two assists and 30 ground balls as Hannan's team won 11 games and reached the Landmark Conference championship game.
Jadin, who picked up 43 ground balls, was tabbed as the second-best long-stick midfielder in the Landmark Conference behind Drew's Michael DeGiovanni, who was selected Player of the Year during the Landmark's inaugural season.
Of the goalkeepers in the conference who appeared in at least eight games, Main finished with the lowest goals-against average (6.04) and the highest save percentage (.678).
