Quick 3-0 Advantage Leads to 13-2 Win Over Monarchs

produced a 3-0 lead for the Gophers, who went on to record a 13-2
victory over the Monarchs this afternoon at Beldon Field.
The first three goals of the contest were scored, in order, by Gordon Waldman (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake), Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Nick LaBricciosa (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West). A second goal by Boncaro with 1:06 showing on the clock put the Gophers (1-2) ahead 4-0 after one period.
Goucher's lead grew to 6-0 on goals by Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Matt Lynch (Ivyland, Pa./LaSalle College) before the Monarchs (1-1) got on the scoreboard for the first time on a goal by Brendan Novotny with 4:21 remaining in the first half. The Gophers enjoyed an 8-2 lead at halftime.
The only goal of the third period was scored by Averett at 10:25. Boncaro put the finishing touches on a five-goal, two-assist performance by scoring a pair of unassisted goals and setting up a goal by Lynch in the fourth quarter.
The Gophers finished with a 44-17 edge in shots.
