An extra-man goal by Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) with :06 remaining provided the Gophers (4-2) with a 4-0 lead after one period.
The Pilgrims (0-4) got on the scoreboard first in the second quarter on an extra-man goal by Lucas Fleig, but the Gophers responded with a run of six consecutive goals that put them ahead 10-1 at haltime. John Curry (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) had a hand in four of the six goals, scoring two of them and setting up a pair of goals by Matt Lynch (Ivyland, Pa./LaSalle College) on extra-man opportunities.
Goucher took its biggest lead of the contest on an even-strength goal by Chris Argonish (New Brunswick, N.J./St. Joseph) 2:26 into the third quarter which made the score 11-1.
Curry finished with three goals and a pair of assists, while Lynch contributed three goals and an assist to the victory.
In the 19-year history of Goucher's men's lacrosse program, the Gophers had never gone undefeated on a home stand of at least four games until they defeated Kings, 13-2, Gordon, 10-8, and Randolph-Macon, 12-4, in back-to-back-to-back contests on Beldon Field prior to today's victory over New England.
