Goucher as the Gophers pinned a 14-5 setback on Washington &
Jefferson this afternoon.
In winning for the eighth time in a span of nine games, the Gophers finished with a commanding 53-19 advantage in shots. They led 4-0 after one quarter and 5-0 thanks to an extra-man goal by Matt Lynch (Ivyland, Pa./LaSalle College) just :17 into the second period.
Only five goals separated the two teams at halftime, but the Gophers (8-3) tallied the first four goals of the third quarter, taking an 11-2 lead on an unassisted goal by Chris Argonish (New Brunswick, N.J./St. Joseph) with 2:11 remaining in the period.
Lynch had a hand in five goals, scoring three and picking up a pair of assists. Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North), Mike Russo (Frederick, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) and Argonish all contributed two goals to the victory, while Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva), Jacob Fratella (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), Jackson Lane (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), John Curry (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) and Kyle Borsody (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) added one apiece.
Nick LaBricciosa (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) handled all 21 face-offs for Goucher, winning 15 of them.
Mark Ringeling scored twice for the Presidents (5-5), sticking an even-strength goal in the second quarter and cashing in on an extra-man opportunity late in the third period.
