MADISON, N.J. – Goucher is picked to finish in third place
in the Landmark Conference in 2009, according to a preseason poll
of head men's lacrosse coaches and sports information directors at
the seven member institutions that sponsor the sport.
Drew, the reigning Landmark champion, and Scranton are the two
teams that finished ahead of head coach Kyle Hannan's Gophers in
the poll, which was released today. The Rangers were made the
favorite to repeat as they accumulated 48 points in the poll and
the Royals received 41.
The Gophers, who lost to Drew, 8-5, in the finals of the inaugural
Landmark Conference playoffs in 2008, picked up 38 points in the
poll, four more than Merchant Marine. Catholic (25 points),
Moravian (13) and Susquehanna (11) placed fifth through seventh,
respectively, in the poll.
One member of the Landmark Conference – Juniata – does
not sponsor men's lacrosse.
The Gophers launch their 2009 season against Guilford on Saturday.
