MADISON, N.J. – Three lacrosse players from Goucher were among the student-athletes who were named Players of the Week in the Landmark Conference for March 2-8, according to an announcement by the conference today.
Goucher swept the two awards for the sport of women's lacrosse with freshman attacker Mary Lambert (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) being chosen the Offensive Player of the Week and senior midfielder/defender Jenny Lucey (Newbury, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) selected Defensive Player of the Week.
For men's lacrosse, Goucher's Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Lambert scored seven times while taking only nine shots in the two games the Gophers won during the seven-day period. She contributed three goals to the 19-6 triumph over Notre Dame (Md.) and then turned in a four-goal, one-assist performance in a 14-11 victory over New England.
Lucey was credited with six caused turnovers, two in the Notre Dame (Md.) game and four in the New England contest. Against the Gators, she also scored three times, picked up an assist, won two draws and scooped up three ground balls; against the Nor'easters, she notched three goals and came up with six ground balls.
Boncaro's week started with four ground balls and a pair of assists in a 12-11 loss to Greensboro in overtime, but then freshman attackman had a hand in eight goals in a 13-9 triumph over Wooster. He bunched three of his five goals and two of his three assists into the second period where the Gophers outscored the Fighting Scots, 6-2, to open up a 9-5 advantage at the end of the first half.
