MADISON, N.J. – Three student-athletes from Goucher were selected Players of the Week in the Landmark Conference for April 13-19, according to an official release by the conference today.
The honor for Offensive Player of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse went to Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hebron School). The sophomore midfielder supplied the Gophers with three goals and five assists in an 18-7 victory over Moravian and then turned in a three-goal, four-assist performance in an 18-12 triumph over Frostburg St. She also controlled a total of seven draws in the two games and is the second-leading scorer on the team with 30 goals and 19 assists.
For men's lacrosse, Max Walters (Rocky River, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was chosen Defensive Player of the Week. One of two seniors starting on close defense for the Gophers in 2009, he came up with seven ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in a 9-5 win over Catholic and then was credited with four ground balls and three caused turnovers against Drew. Walters also tallied the third goal of his career in the 16-6 victory over the Rangers.
Tade Ade-Turton (Ocean City, Md./Parkside) was named the week's top male performer in track events for setting new outdoor school records in the 100- and 200-yard dashes at the Messiah Invitational. He established a new school record in the 100 by crossing the finish line in :11.21 during the trials and then lowered his time to :11.06 in the finals to finish in third place. No runner in the history of Goucher's track and field program had ever completed the 200 in under :23 before Ade-Turton did it in :22.75, again good for third place.
