Three Teams Remain in Hunt for Landmark Titles
Gophers Earn No. 1 Seed in Men's Lacrosse, Will Host Royals
April 27, 2009
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's men's lacrosse team is the No. 1
seed in the Landmark Conference championship tournament and will
host fourth-seeded Scranton in one of Wednesday's two semifinals.
That same day, Goucher's women's tennis and women's lacrosse teams will also be in action as the Landmark Conference postseason tournaments in those two sports also get underway at four different locations.
The Gophers hope to duplicate their 12-2 triumph over Scranton in the semifinals of the Landmark's inaugural men's lacrosse tournament in 2008 and are out to avenge a 10-9 double-overtime loss to the Royals earlier this season. In addition, they will be putting their perfect all-time record in home postseason contests on the line. Prior to last year's win over Scranton, they hosted five playoff games while Goucher was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference and prevailed in each one of them.
Wednesday's game time in Gopher Stadium is 4 p.m.
Goucher's opponent in the semifinals of the Landmark women's tennis championship tournament will be second-seeded Juniata. The Gophers and Eagles will square off in Huntingdon, Pa., with the starting time of Wednesday's match still to be determined.
When the two team met during the regular season, Juniata came out on top, 6-3.
In women's lacrosse, head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers are the No. 4 seed, which means they face top-seeded Drew in a semifinal on Wednesday in Madison, N.J. Game time is 4 p.m.
During the regular season, the Rangers were victorious in the head-to-head meeting with Goucher, 17-8.
The Gophers last captured a conference title in the sport of women's lacrosse in 1996 when Goucher was still in the CAC. Goucher has never been conference champion in men's lacrosse or women's tennis.
