CoSIDA Recognizes Boucher for Academic Excellence
YORK, Pa. – Alex Boucher (North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy), a senior midfielder on Goucher's men's lacrosse team, was named today to the ESPN The Magazine 2009 Academic All-District II College Division Men's At-Large Team which was chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Pa./Germantown Academy), a senior midfielder on Goucher's
men's lacrosse team, was named today to the ESPN The
Magazine 2009 Academic All-District II College Division Men's
At-Large Team which was chosen by members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Boucher was a first-team selection for the district which covers Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington D.C., and his name will appear on CoSIDA's Academic All-America national ballot with other all-district first-team selections from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA institutions. The men's at-large team is open to athletes from the following sports: lacrose, golf, rifle, volleyball, gymnastics, skiing, water polo, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, tennis and wrestling.
CoSIDA founded its Academic All-America program in 1952 to recognize and award the premier college scholar-athletes throughout the nation for their ability to achieve excellence on the playing field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Boucher, who will graduate summa cum laude with honors in economics this week, compiled a 3.94 GPA during his four years at Goucher. He attained a perfect 4.0 GPA in six of the eight semesters and made the 2008 and 2009 Landmark Conference Spring All-Academic Teams.
He was elected to the Beta chapter of the Maryland Phi Beta Kappa honor society and won the Max Hoschild Prize for Excellence in Economics, awarded to the top economics major, and the 2009 Excellence Award in Ecnomics from the Baltimore branch of The Frederal Reserve Bank of Richmond. In 2008, he was the recipent of the Goucher athletic department's Scholar-Athlete Award for juniors; in 2009, he was presented the Ruth Baird Thompson Class of '31 Award for academic excellence and sportsmanship.
Boucher ran as a defensive midfielder on the second unit in 2008 when Goucher ranked third in Division III in scoring defense, earning second-team All-Landmark Conference honors as a specialist. He was a team captain this season and supplied the Gophers with 13 goals and three assists.
