MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has chosen three
student-athletes from Goucher to be the Senior Scholar Athlete for
their respective sport in 2008-09.
A committee of conference officers, athletic directors and sports information directors selected 14 student-athletes during the second semester to be recipients of the Landmark Conference's most exclusive academic award, presented to only 20 individuals during each academic year. The honorees had to have a minimum GPA of 3.20 and were selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.
The three Goucher student-athletes who were chosen were Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, Va./O'Connell) for women's swimming, Alex Boucher (North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy) for men's lacrosse and Marlo Tersigni (Boston, Mass./Lawrence Academy) for women's lacrosse.
Natoli, who represented Goucher on the Winter Landmark Conference All-Academic Team as both a junior and a senior, was conference champion in both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes in 2008. At the 2009 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, she placed third in the 400 individual medley and fourth in both backstroke events.
Boucher, who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in six of the eight semesters he attended Goucher, earned second-team All-Landmark Conference honors in 2008 as a specialist. He supplied the Gophers with 13 goals and three assists in his final season, helping the team secure the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference postseason tournament.
Tersigni was the recipient of ther 2009 Coaches Award as Goucher's outstanding senior athlete. She was rewarded for a 36-goal, 21-assist performance this past season by repeating as a first-team midfielder on the All-Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Team. In addition, she made the second team of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's All-Boardwalk Region Team.
