Gophers Nearly Complete Comeback in Fourth Quarter
ASHLAND, Va. — Goucher trailed Randolph-Macon, 12-7, after three periods this afternoon and fell further behind when the Yellow Jackets stuck the first goal of the fourth quarter. The Gophers then proceeded to score five unanswered goals, closing to within 13-12 on an unassisted goal by Matt Lynch (Ivyland, Pa./LaSalle College) with :32 remaining, but time expired before they could get another shot off in an attempt to avoid a one-goal loss.
Four-Goal, One-Assist Performances Out of Averett, Boncaro

An extra-man goal by Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) 2:32 into the contest put Goucher up 1-0, but that turned out to be the Gophers' only lead. By the end of the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets (3-1) had gone ahead 4-2.
Averett and Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) scored for Goucher in the second quarter, but the Gophers (0-3) were down 8-4 at the end of the first half.
The Gophers tallied the first two goals of the third quarter and were behind just 8-6 after Boncaro stuck an even-strength goal 2:10 into the period, but the Yellow Jackets responded with four consecutive goals to go up 12-6.
The Gophers lost to Randolph-Macon for the first time since 2006 despite outshooting the Yellow Jackets, 49-29.
Averett and Boncaro both turned in four-goal, one-assist efforts for Goucher. The Yellow Jackets had three players — Tim Rowe, Brian Rowe and Justin Butler — with three goals apiece.
Jason Crawford went the distance in goal for the Yellow Jackets and made at least four saves in each period for a total of 18.
