MADISON, N.J. — Goucher produced two of the 14 recipients of Player of the Week honors from the Landmark Conference that were announced today and cover the seven-day period beginning April 4.
Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) was named Offensive Player of the Week for the sport of men's lacrosse following his eight-goal, two-assist performance for the Gophers in a 19-13 Landmark Conference victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The junior attackman had four goals to his credit before the Mariners got on the scoreboard for the first time midway through the opening period and the eight goals is the most by a Goucher player since Pat Tracy delivered nine goals in a 20-4 triumph over York back on March 10, 2004.
With a career total of 127 goals, Averett now ranks second in that category in the history of Goucher's men's lacrosse program.
Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), who went 3-0 at No. 2 singles for the Gophers, was recognized as the Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner over Stacey Clark in a match against Messiah. Then in a 7-2 triumph over Juniata that gave head coach Sally Baum's squad a share of first place in the Landmark Conference, she defeated Stacie Beegle 6-2, 6-4.
Lee took on Lauren Kelly from Christopher Newport in Goucher's third match of the seven-day stretch and was victorious 6-4, 6-4.
The junior is 8-7 in singles play in 2010-11.
