Bergman for Going 2-0 at No. 3; Mishaw for 19-Save Effort
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher produced two of the 14 recipients of Player of the Week honors from the Landmark Conference that were announced today for April 5-11.
Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit), who went 2-0 at No. 3 singles for the Gophers, was recognized as the Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The junior was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Elaina Sceusa in a match against Catholic. Then in a 5-4 triumph over Moravian that provided head coach Sally Baum's squad with sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference, she rallied from being down a set to defeat Elizabeth Endy 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, earning the decisive fifth point that sewed up the overall victory.
Bergman is 4-1 against Landmark Conference opponents in singles play this season and 11-8 overall.
Connor Mishaw (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) was named Defensive Player of the Week for the sport of men's lacrosse following his career-high 19-save performance for the Gophers against Catholic. It's the most saves for a Goucher goalkeeper since Austin Main turned away 19 shots against St. Mary's (Md.) back in 2007.
The sophomore made no fewer than seven of his saves while the Gophers were a man down as the Cardinals scored on just one of their seven extra-man opportunities.
Mishaw has a 7.15 goals against average this season for the Gophers, who took over sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference with their 11-9 triumph over the Cardinals.
