AUSTIN, Texas — Goucher performed its own version of the Texas two-step this weekend: One day after opening the 2012 season with a convincing 27-7 triumph over Southwestern (Texas), the Gophers pinned a 30-2 setback on Dallas this afternoon before departing the Lone Star State and heading back to Maryland.
Kyle Boncaro (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) had a hand in six of the 12 goals the Gophers (2-0) tallied in the first quarter against Dallas, scoring three of them and picking up assists on three others. The senior attackman finished with four goals and four assists, which gives him 17 points in two games so far this season, which is enough for him to become only the second player in the history of Goucher's men's lacrosse program to surpass 200 career points.
Goucher tacked on nine more goals in the second period for a 19-0 lead after 30 minutes and tallied the first three goals of the second half before the Crusaders (0-1) got on the scoreboard for the first time on an unassisted goal by Frank Sporleder midway through the third quarter.
The 30 goals is the most the Gophers have scored in a game in the 20-year history of the institution's men's lacrosse program. Other single-game records which were set today: most assists (19), most points (49), most shots (76) and most faceoffs won (26).
