Gophers Move to 2-0 in Landmark Play with 11-5 Win

Morris Wins 12 of 14 Faceoffs, Scoops Up Eight Ground Balls

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher received balanced scoring, coupled with a stifling defensive effort, both scoring first and outscoring Drew in each of the four periods today, earning an 11-5 victory to move to 28-3 all-time in Landmark Conference play.

Zachary Fratella (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) opened the game's scoring just 1:16 into the contest, putting Goucher (3-6, 2-0 Landmark) up early.

Mike Russo (Frederick, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) and Steve Patterson (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake School) added the next two just 29 seconds apart, putting the Gophers up 3-0.

Drew (1-4, 0-2 Landmark) scored next, but Pierce Ingram (Austin, Texas/Westwood) ended the first and opened the second with goals to make the lead 5-1.

Gavin Wilson (Charlestown, Pa./Great Valley) scored next to make it 6-1, starting an exchange of goals that would last until the end of the third in which the teams alternated goals.

Max Roach (Austin, Texas/Austin) opened the fourth with a goal marking the fourth straight period in which the Gophers scored first, as the Gophers scored two of the final period's three goals, ensuring the Gophers would win each period.

Offensively, Sam Morgan (Wilmot, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) finished with two goals and two assists. Dylan Zook (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) had three helpers.

The Gophers outshot the Rangers 51-25.

Dominating the faceoff spot was Tristan Morris (Houston, Texas/Houston Christian), winning 12 of 14, scooping up a game-high eight ground balls.

On the defensive end, Connor Mishaw (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) made 13 stops in net. He was aided by a swarming defensive effort, led by Bryce Carson (Wyomissing, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School), holding one of the conference's leading scorers, Scott Humphries, without a point.
