Conference Recognizes Junior Midfielder, Senior Goalkeeper
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher players were recipients of both of the weekly honors the Landmark Conference bestowed today in the sport of men's lacrosse: junior midfielder Steve Patterson (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake School) was named Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Connor Mishaw (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) was named Defensive Player of the Week for April 22-28.
Patterson supplied the Gophers with four goals in their 10-5 triumph over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He tallied two of his goals in the second period, including the one that provided head coach Brian Kelly's squad with its first lead of the contest, opened the scoring in the second half with another unassisted goal and then accounted for Goucher's only goal during the final 15 minutes of play.
Patterson's four-goal effort boosted his total for the season to 20, which ranks second on the team.
Only three Merchant Marine players were able to solve score against Mishaw, who was making his 52nd consecutive start in goal for the Gophers. In addition to allowing just the five goals, he finished with 14 saves while playing into the fourth quarter.
In the six Landmark Conference games Goucher played this season, Mishaw achieved a 4.93 goals-against average and a conference-best .707 save percentage.
The Gophers are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference postseason tournament and will face the Mariners again Wednesday in the semifinals.
