Lions Limit Gophers to 26 Shots, Claim 14-7 Victory

READING, Pa. — After holding its last three opponents to a combined total of 12 goals, Goucher allowed Albright to score 14 times. The Lions also managed to limit the visiting Gophers to only four even-strength goals the entire contest, which ended 14-7 in favor of the home team.

An unassisted goal by Sam Woodruff (Glen Ridge, N.J./Kent School) accounted for all of Goucher's scoring in the first quarter as Albright led 4-1 after 15 minutes. The Lion (7-4) were able to enlarge their advantage to 6-2, but with just 11 remaining in the first half, Dylan Zook (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) stuck his team-leading 19th goal of the season to make it a 6-3 game at the break.

The Gophers (5-6), who had won three games in a row and five of their past six, were outscored 4-1 again in the third quarter, getting only another goal by Woodruff, and they trailed 10-4 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

After going 0-for-3 on extra-man situations through the first three quarters, Goucher produced three man-up goals in the fourth. The first one was scored by Sam Morgan (Wilmot, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) just 18 seconds into the period, making the score 10-5. Albright had already regained a six-goal cushion when Max Roach (Austin, Texas/Austin) extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with an extra-man tally at 11:49.

Albright enjoyed a 13-6 lead and had two players serving penalties when Gavin Wilson (Charlestown, Pa./Great Valley) scored with 1:35 left to play for the Gophers.

In the first ever meeting between the two teams, the Lions finished with a 54-26 advantage in shots and they scooped up 35 ground balls, 11 more than the Gophers.

Goucher plays at home for the first time since March 22 when it welcomes Catholic to Gopher Stadium this coming Thursday for a Landmark Conference game. The opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
