Men's Lacrosse Dominates in Season Opener
The Goucher College men's lacrosse team (1-0, Landmark 0-0) team started their season on a strong note, routing the Hood College Blazers 19-7.

FREDERICK, MD -- The Goucher College men's lacrosse team (1-0, Landmark 0-0) team started their season on a strong note, routing the Hood College Blazers 19-7.
The Gophers came out shooting early, scoring a quick first goal from senior Jake Ziegler (Buffalo, NY) two minutes into the game. Shortly after, the Blazers returned the favor with a goal from sophomore Grayson Zubradt. Goucher later capitalized on a last minute penalty before the end of the quarter, with a man-up goal from Mason Gorman (Boise ID).
Grant Lasorda (Collegeville, PA) and Derek Bitzer (Doylestown, PA) both scored goals within the first four minutes of the second quarter to continue the momentum. Goucher would ultimately outscore Hood 8-2 at the half.
Both teams were even in the third quarter tallying four goals each, making the score 12-6 going into the fourth. The Gophers proved to be too much ,scoring seven goals in a row over the span of 13 minutes.
How It Happened:
- Junior Leo Sementilli (Ellicot City, MD) had a game high in points (7) with four goals and three assists.
- Junior goalkeeper Matt Messerle (Limerick, PA) saved 7 of the 13 shots he faced between the pipes.
- Goucher had eight different goal scorers during the contest.
Coaches Thought: "It was nice to open the new season with a road win. We had a lot of guys playing extensive minutes for the first time in their careers and we got a solid effort out of players across all positions."
