MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Goucher College men's lacrosse team fell behind host Messiah, 10-3, at halftime and was unable to mount a comeback, eventually dropping a 14-5 decision on Wednesday evening.
With the defeat, Goucher dropped to 3-3 overall, while Messiah improved to 2-2 with the win.
In the contest, Messiah came out firing on Goucher, opening a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles increased the lead to 5-0 early in the second quarter, before sophomore Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md.) scored Goucher's first goal of the night with 11:43 left in the half.
Junior Jeremy Buckler (Severna Park, Md.) scored the game's next goal to make it a 5-2 game, but Messiah proceeded to score five of the next six goals of the contest, taking a 10-3 lead into intermission. The seven-goal deficit proved to be too much for the Gophers to come back from over the final 30 minutes of regulation, as the Eagles rolled down to the stretch to notch the nine-goal win.
Overall, Woodson continued to play well on the offensive end, scoring a pair of first-half goals. Woodson has now scored multiple goals in three straight games, pushing his goal total on the year with seven. Elsewhere, Buckler, sophomore Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa.) and junior Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md.) scored the other goals on the night for the Gophers, as junior Mason Gorman (Boise, Idaho) was credited with an assist on the evening, as well.
The Goucher College men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Coast Guard. Face-off at Beldon Field is set for 1 p.m.
