MADISON. N.J.– The Goucher men's lacrosse program (9-6, Landmark 3-2) are one step closer to clinching a playoff spot after defeating Drew University (3-11, Landmark 0-5) 9-5 Saturday afternoon.
Drew's Seamus O'Connor put the Rangers on the board early in the game, scoring two minutes into play.
Goucher would go on to score the five goals over the rest of the first half, holding Drew to that one goal. In the first quarter, sophomore midfielder Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa.), junior attack man Mason Gorman (Boise, Id.), and senior midfielder Derek Bitzer (Doylestown, Pa.) all found the back of the net with assists from sophomore attack man Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md.). Woodson had four assists and one goal, while Sade scored four of the nine goals.
Defensively, senior midfielder Jaryd Hartzell (Nazarath, Pa.) had two ground balls and three caused turnovers, senior defenseman Peter Cost (Berwyn, Pa.) and sophomore defender Mick Togo (Wilmington, Del.) both tallied two caused turnovers a piece.
With the win, Goucher is battling for a third or fourth place seed placement in the Landmark Conference Playoffs. The Gophers host Moravian next Saturday at 1pm in Gopher Stadium.
